This is done using watercolour on watercolour paper. There's a certain kind of freedom in using watercolour and I love its transparent quality/effect and I love how its able to "paint itself". This is one of my favourite mediums to paint with as well. Initially I just wanted to draw something beautiful, and I did many random doodles of butterflies on my layout pad. As I was drawing the final sketch, the message in this piece changed in my mind to something else. I'll leave it up to the viewer's own interpretation.
