About the Artist
Please provide a profile of yourself. How long have you been working in art/design, what do you specialize in, have you won any other awards?

I'm Marlon Elloso Villaverde from Lucban,Quezon Philippines. I've been an artist since my elementary days when I started drawing Voltes V (that's my favorite character back then). Between elementary and college I frequently joined art competitions here in the Philippines. I have won many contests here and most of the time made it to the finalists. I think this 2nd Wacom Holiday Contests is my biggest achievement and I'm proud of it. Now I'm working in China and I specialize in giftware and product designs.

What kind of pen tablet, art/design software do you use? How long have you been using it?

I'm using an Intuos3 4x5 with the help of Photoshop, Illustrator and Painter. I've been using it for two years.

About the winning entry
Where did you get the idea for this entry?
I like Christmas theme since I work at a giftware company, and I like to draw cute things.

Why did you use this theme?
When I'm drawing I always think positively and I want to reach out to the minds and hearts of the people seeing this artwork. I wanted it to be as simple as possible with a little effects.

Did you use a pen tablet to make this? How did you use it (i.e. what software did you use to make it)?

Yes, I'm using intuos3 4x5 with Photoshop and ImageReady for the animated lights. Before editing your work in ImageReady, make sure every layer that you want to be animated is prepared.

Tips for other artists (for tips/tricks)

Do you use the pen tablet with a mouse or just a pen tablet?
I always used pen tablet instead of mouse.

Is there any special way that the pen is different from the mouse in the software that you use?
It's easy for the artist to use a pen tablet rather than a mouse because you feel like you are holding a pencil or a pen for drawing. I like the sensitivity of the pen tablet. You can easily adjust the stroke by the pressure sensitivity of the tablet.

How do you program the buttons on the pen and the buttons on the tablet?
Only the defaults.

Do you work only on computers? If not, what other types of art tools do you use? How are they better or worse than the pen tablet?
Yes, I work most of the time in computers (Mac computer preferred). When I was in college I liked doing Printmaking and Oil Painting. There are limitations in both computer generated art and in hand drawing. One thing I would say is that both are my favorite cause I'm an artist. I like art and I appreciate everything related to art.
