Thank you for all your submissions to the 4th Wacom Holiday Season Contest! The Community staff of Wacom Asia Pacific very much enjoyed watching at the entries. We found many of it to be not only beautiful, bright and cute but also traditional and multicultural.

Despite the amazing quality of this year's entries, Ning Da's image was a clear winner. Everything about this image is impressive: idea, colors, composition, technique, texture and the wealth of symbols associated with Chinese New Year traditions of Taiwan.

Emerging from the girl's flowing hair you can find a dragon, a tiger (it's his year!), charms, gods and symbols of good luck and fortune - all this unleashed by the simple act of breaking a fortune cookie. Even the colors are chosen to represent good luck (red) and wishes of wealth (golden). It's amazing how many traditions you can learn from one image.

Congratulations Ning Da, we wish you great wealth and fortune in the Year of the Tiger - for a good beginning, we are sending you a new Intuos4 Large!

This warm image of Santa Claus opening a Christmas present won us for it's original, realistic style and cozy atmosphere. We liked how the words "Merry Christmas" glow and light up the room, immediately catching the viewer's eye. You can almost hear the sound of sparkles swooshing around the chain of letters. Santa's coat is very nicely done, and the amount of detail in the background is amazing - count all those presents! Let's hope the elves will get something, too.

Meanwhile, the author Timothy Chang receives a late Christmas present from Wacom - enjoy your new Intuos4 Medium! Ho ho ho!

This year, tigers reigned supreme - some were big and scary, but we really adore these two Baek-ho (White Tigers in Korean, thank you for the explanation, Holiholi!). In this image, they pop a traditional Korean gourd to shower us with symbols of good luck and fortune.

We really liked the simple, legible composition (this would be an excellent post card!), matched colors and, of course, character design. Congratulations Holiholi, a Bamboo Fun Pen and Touch will be flying your way!

Q1. 작품에 대해서 좀 더 설명해 주십시오 . 어디서 아이디어를 얻었습니까 ?

저는 주로 지하철안에서 이동하는 시간동안 간단한 스케치를 합니다.
단순한 낙서라고 볼 수 있는데,
제가 그리는 대부분의 그림들이 그런 낙서에서 비롯되었다고 볼 수 있습니다.이번 그림 역시 낙서중 하나에서 비롯 되었습니다. 그 다음에는 브레인 스토밍 과정을 통해 새해를 기념할 수 있는 것들을 적거나 그려놓고,
그 중에서 한국전통에 맞는 것을 골랐습니다.예로 부터 한국에서는 이사를 하거나, 함을 들여올때 등 중요한 일이 시작되기 전에
박을 깨는 풍습이 있었습니다.
박을 깨는 것을 통해 액운을 떨쳐버릴 수 있다고 생각해서 입니다.지금은 그 행위를 많이 찾아볼 수 없지만,
그 행위자체가 재밌고 의미가 좋은 것 같아서 그림의 컨셉을 아기 백호 두마리가 힘을 합쳐 박을깨고,
새해 인사를 하는 것으로 정했습니다. 그림은 박을 깨고난 직후의 모습으로, 福이 써져있는 장식과 알록달록 꽃들은
2010년 역시 밝고 기쁜 한해가 되길 바라며
알록달록 색색별로 화려하게 표현하려 하였습니다. 그 밖에 부수적인 것으로는
예전에 행운을 의미하였던 까치를 넣었고,
배경에 허전한 느낌을 없애고, 행운의 의미를 강조하기 위해
福을 크게 배치하였습니다.

Q2. 어떤 부분이 가장 그리기 어려우셨습니까 ?

백호의 경우는 제스타일 대로 그렸기 때문에 어렵지 않았지만,백호가 중심이 되어야하는 이 그림에서 박의 존재를 어떻게 배치하느냐가 가장 어려웠던 것 같습니다.
결국엔 박에 문양이나 디테일이 많으면 백호의 존재가 작아지는 것 같아 생략을 하고,
붉은 색 하나로만 색칠을 하였습니다.
