We all know how much the internet has worked to make our global community ever smaller, and of course, the huge multinational companies out there operate their businesses in many nations without a second though. But, how many small design firms do you know that successfully operate across borders and oceans, and do so without sacrificing time and creative quality? With so much work being requested locally, most people hire and collaborate locally.
Not Vector Bros Studio (www.vectorbros.com). Simon, Mat and Sansan live in Malaysia, Australia and Hong Kong respectively and have been collaborating, sharing and inspiring each other for years. The result was the birth of Vector Bros Studio this spring, and hot off the presses, these guys (and girl) are on fire! Here are some of the questions they answered for us. (Works displayed here come from the Community and Artist Galleries.) |

Before the initiation of VectorBros, we met each other through that most efficient communication tool called the Internet. Through this magical tool, we shared our thoughts on art and design issues, and sometimes we exchanged ideas and commented on each other artwork. The passion for design in each of us drove us together, and gradually we united as ONE. Here is where VectorBros was born.
About the Vector Bros name:
Simon and Mat draw, create, trace, and invent graphical vector images from amazing vector software and then Sansan fuses these graphics with her abstract artwork as the background. Therefore we decided to call ourselves VectorBros (no offense to Sansan, she has to be one of the brothers ). As we continued to share, we realized we needed a logo to represent the three of us.

About the Vector Bros (vb) logo:
The amazing concept came from Mat when he told us about what he does during his free time in Melbourne. He likes growing vegetables at home when he is bored and *dink* the idea came into our heads that we have to create something that grows from the ground. The vector look of the logo represents the style that we have, the cartoon feel of it represents Mat as the character designer and the brush strokes represent Sansan being the abstract painter. |
We realized we had the talent and potential in design to give it a shot and try running our own design studio. Thus, the birth of Vector Bros Studio. |

We offer a wide range of services, anything that falls in between advertising and promotional items -- we have it all! That's basically an answer to create commercial value, but of course we know there are many advertising studios out there that do the same thing. In order to survive in this competitive market, we needed to provide the services that most clients would be interested in. On top of that though, we do what we love best -- vector collaboration. Interested artistic individuals often request our "vectorizing" service to be displayed as a portrait to remember or as a gift.

Like how we met, we chat through instant messengers and we usually transfer those gigantic files into our server and download them from there. For now it is not quite as fast as a bolt of lightning striking our butts, but it's as good as it can get. Until we get a server established in Hong Kong and Australia, we will just bare with it for a little while longer. Oh and did I mention our server is in Malaysia? |

Well for some strange reason we don't usually talk verbally everyday unless there is an important project in hand that we need to brainstorm. Of course, with our new Wacom Intuos3, we can now draw @$$ kicking mind maps. We usually guide one and another through IM's or SMS's. So for the time being, we have not encountered any critical moments that we could not bear. I wonder how challenging that will be when the time comes |

The majority of our clients are from Malaysia because the marketing team is stronger here, but of course we do have clients from other countries who have discovered us usually by the word of mouth (friends, family, client's friends, etc.). The three of us represent each country. So when we receive emails to our international email account (vb.international@vectorbros.com), all three of us automatically receives a notification and we then determine who should attend to it. One of our main selling points is that we design an artwork from three different perspectives; therefore clients love to hear what our designers in other countries have to say. But of course, we do have local clients who want things to be localized. |

Create comes from the word invent and creativity appears to be on one's mind. When we understand these two words and fuse them together, we see image, we see life, we see innovation, and on top of all that, we see togetherness. Thus, we want to create a revolution in design that is accepted by every individual on earth.
When we say against, we mean to design a successful finished artwork that is not just the best in that country but that is on top of all, against the best of the best. |
