Tokyo, Japan – December 14th, 2010 – Wacom® today announces an addition to its range of digital signature products – the new STU-520 LCD signature tablet. Ideal for organizations including banks, hotels and shops, signature tablets enable digital handwritten signatures to be recorded where digital workflows or high levels of security are crucial. In addition, the STU-520 provides an innovative way of communicating a brand, advertising or sales initiatives to the customer at POS. This is enabled by Wacom’s first color LCD for the signature market that displays high resolution images and logos.

With the STU-520, customers can provide handwritten digital signatures in a range of scenarios including signing a receipt in a shop, a form to open a bank account or phone contract, or even to check into a hotel. It presents signatures in real-time while a customer signs on the display of the tablet, providing a similar experience to writing on real paper.

Small and compact, the new Wacom STU-520 features a high quality, widescreen 4.7” color display with a WVGA resolution of 800 x 480 pixels offering ample screen space for both signatures and promotional messages. When the display is sitting idle and not being used for signing, the STU-520 provides an innovative way for companies to display advertising and sales programs in vibrant, eye-catching color. The STU-520 display also offers plenty of space to incorporate menu buttons or soft keys.

As with the other signature tablets in the range, the STU-520 is based on Wacom’s patented pen technology. As the pens are cordless and battery-free, they are ergonomic to use and require no maintenance. In addition to the physical xy position of the pen, all Wacom tablets register the pressure and speed of the pen during the signature process. This data (xy position and pressure) can then be used to generate individual biometric profiles for each signatory.
